Workshop: Probabilistic Models of Cognitive Development

Principal Investigator:
Project Overview
Background & Purpose:

This grant provides funds for a workshop on probabilistic models of cognitive development to be held in May 2009. The workshop will bring together researchers from computer science, statistics, and computational cognitive science with theorists, experimentalists, and education researchers studying cognitive development. The goal of the workshop is to develop a deeper understanding of how probability and statistics can be used to describe human learning, and of how young children can reason about chance and uncertainty.

Setting:

The workshop will be held at the Banff International Research Station, Banff, Canada.

Other Products:

We aim to have a detailed discussion on educational applications of the findings presented at the workshop, and to provide a summary of the results of this discussion to the National Science Foundation.
